With an amazing blend of challenging greens as well as specially-maintained and manicured fairways seamlessly landscaped into spectacularly stunning locations, a golfing experience in Bali is a marvel to behold. Such is the exquisiteness at your disposal that it is tempting to bask in the grounds and just delight in the setting. In numerous instances, extensively forested sceneries serve as the backdrop to your swing, not to mention signature holes established over the creeks or on islands.

So, which are the best golf courses to visit? If you are already in Bali and looking to engage in an entertaining golfing experience, below are some of the best Bali has to offer. Bali as you already now know is a marvel in itself hence its popularity as a global tourist destination. The archipelago aside, one of the few reasons it ranks high on the global scene is the New Kuta Golf Course. With the backing of remarkable user reviews, it is simply impossible to not fall in love with this golf course at first sight.

Deemed as the first links-style course in the island, New Kuta is carved off harsh limestone and set up over dazzling white cliffs overlooking the magnificent far-stretching surface of the Indian Ocean. This championship course ranks well above many of its counterparts in Asia both for its beauty and its challenging nature. Opened back in 2013, New Kuta features five tee sets which subsequently affords adequate variety to accommodate players of virtually any skill level. It is a fragment of the visionary Pecatu Indah Resort development set on the Uluwatu Coast limestone cliffs and a masterpiece by the iconic Ronald Fream.

This 18-hole course was established by the reputed Golf Plan Group as is witnessed by its perfect alignment with natural land contours, offering undulating greens and fairways, shady native tree groves, and challenging sand traps. The course also includes an academy – Golf Academy Bali, established by Neil Douglas (PGA professional) for you that relish the chance to brush up your game, a restaurant overlooking the 18th and 9th holes, a bar featuring a lookout tower which allows prime sunset vistas, not to mention all year championship tournaments. What’s more, New Kuta also includes a tranquil spa to help you unwind after an exciting game.

Also on your itinerary should be the Bali National Golf Club. Cited as the premier golf resort and course in the southern area of Bali, this course easily inspires joyous memories to active participants-particularly those who have played on a regular basis since it was formerly known as Bali Golf and Country Club (prior to its overhaul and subsequent reopening in 2014). Aside from its remarkably revamped clubhouse, the National golf course ushers you to articulately improved landscaped greens, with challenging rounds courtesy of its 18 holes amidst tropical gardens and bunkers.

The condition of the course is nothing short of immaculate and is a delight to play on. It features three distinct sections. Its nine front holes typically comprise bunkers, shrubbery, and greens, plus a small lake located on the western side. The consequent north section includes holes 10 to 16 and features three lakes and a collection of sand bunkers. Finally, its third (small) base section houses hole 17 and 18 and also includes three lakes together with most of the facilities within the club. These are inclusive of contemporary locker rooms boasting changing facilities and showers, a Pro Shop, and bars and restaurants. Whether nostalgic replay or play, this course is definitely worth checking out.

It is even better if you are staying at the Nusa Dua Resort since you can take pleasure in the transfer, since it takes a mere five minutes to get there. You are lost for choice when it comes to movement from tee to tee since the facility offers a remarkable fleet of 80 golf carts each equipped with complimentary water, a fully-stocked beverage cooler box, not to forget a designated caddie. And whenever you feel famished in between your games, you can always step into the Halfway Houses situated at holes 14 and 4 and enjoy a moment of reprieve courtesy of their refreshments. Additionally, if you are thinking of spending more than just the day here, you can also check into their accommodation packages that include luxurious villas, a spa and swimming pool. Finally, this golf club also features the sole professional golf institute in Bali, the Ancora Golf.

Finally, you can cap off your Bali stay by taking time to visit the Bali Handara (Bedugul) Golf Course. Located in the Bali central highlands, the Handara is widely regarded as among the most dazzling golf courses in the world and for a good reason. Aside from the spectacular scenery that greets your eyes (including flamboyant blooms sparling the greens and fairways), this 18-hole golf course rests within an extinct volcano crater well above 1000 meters above sea level. This not only cements its place as the highest championship golf course across both Bali and Indonesia, but it also adds to its allure with the gorgeous visually arresting views. While here, you can enjoy an immersive experience courtesy of both the cool weather and devastatingly beautiful views.

You can kick off your day early to take pleasure in the mist ascending from the mountain tops and rain forest, cruise across the serene greens aboard your modern golf cart, or even sharpen your proficiency with some PGA pros. And if you need some replenishment, the course features a flamboyant onsite dining restaurant and luxurious accommodation for with stay and play packages.

A serene atmosphere, warm climate, pristine beaches, rich tradition and culture, and top-class resorts have for long dominated the list of reasons why Bali remains an exceptional vacation site. Nonetheless, there is much more to the place also known as the Island of the Gods’ and its stunning golf courses are a testimony. Next time you visit Bali, be sure to check out these golf courses for an exhilarating outdoor experience.

5 out of 5 – Nicely Bali

Bali National does not disappoint as the island’s premier course. Befitting its national moniker it is full of contrasts just like Bali itself.
Like the road to the golf course which narrows from a three-lane thoroughfare to a one-lane side street, many of the holes have wide fairways that is made narrow by protective green-side bunkers leaving a landing strip requiring accurate approach shots.

Just like construction work all over the island, there is some building work-in-progress marring course aesthetics. Especially the signature Par 3 Hole 17 which has now become an island green without water, surrounded by construction debris and cranes that do not fly.

Views of the sea are far and few between and I mean literally far in the distance.

Nevertheless Bali National stands tall with its well manicured conditions and impeccable greens. The marshall even let me take my buggy on course on account of my strapped knee.

But make no mistake that it is a tough course and be prepared to play over your handicap. – Kin Yong C

5 out of 5 – Great course

Very challenging course though well laid out with the different tee boxes. Caddies included and the girls know the course well and do a great job – listen to them, it helps. Kept in great condition, always evident by the condition of the (many) bunkers. Up there with Nirwana. – Paul C from Singapore, Singapore

5 out of 5 – Great Golf Course in Nusa Dua

This is golf course is great.

The food that they serve in the club house very nice and well present.

The price of this food is reasonable and must try for nasi bali and ayam Betutu.

The golf course beautiful and the green very challenging… it’s one of must try for every golfer. – Rachimi from Jakarta, Indonesia

5 out of 5 – Great Course for all levels

Played three days at Bali National Golf Club. The clubhouse is standard Asian clubhouse with decent facilities. The Pro shop staff is friendly and you can get what you need from the shop. Don’t expect high-end brand for clothing items like Nike or Addias.

The course itself if very beautiful. You are required to have a caddy and cart. Personally, I had a great time and had a great caddy. I am not a serious golfer, but do enjoy playing. The course was in good condition.

Although a members club, most players are “tourists” during the week. The starter was “flexible” and allowed me to start at hole 14 vs. 1 or 10 to avoid waiting. I greatly appreciated that and did this on 2 of the 3 days i played.

On day 1, I played with a Swiss gentleman who lives in Bali 6 months out of the year. He thinks Bali National is better than a couple of the other offerings in Bali. and while I can’t compare, I would return again to Bali National. – jackmandl from Singapore

5 out of 5 – Great course

Had a round here yesterday and really enjoyed the course. The staff are friendly and the course is in amazing condition. Lots of bunkers and water.

The 17th the ultimate hole 360degrees of the green is surrounded by water. Lucky I landed the green first shot. Others didn’t.

Think I would play at nirwana ahead of this after playing both – Damorob from Melbourne, Australia
