Nusa Penida is too large to explore the entire island in just one day, but as part of your Bali holiday, a visit – even just for a day – is well worth the trip. The island is far less developed than Bali, full of natural wonders and jaw-dropping landscapes. A tour of the eastern side of the island covers temples, land and sea, for a variety of the island’s extraordinary sites.
After taking the ferry from Sanur Harbour, you’ll land on Nusa Penida and be greeted by your tour guide for the day. The first stop is – the Goa Giri Putri temple. This temple is truly beautiful, but it is in a cave, completely hidden from the outside world. After, head to lunch at stunning Atuh Beach, followed by a stop at Pulau Seribu, or “Thousand Island viewpoint.” This is one of the lesser-known sites in Penida, but you’ll see why it should be at the top of the list. The last stop is the comically named, Teletubbies Hill. Among the rolling hills, the jungles are so lush with greenery, they create a landscape of bright green hillsides, much like that of the home of the Teletubbies.
Please use caution, as falls are frequent for tourists who venture off paths and beyond the fences. Nusa Penid’s rugged terrain can also be dangerous if guidelines are not respected.
