Some of the best spots for an underwater adventure are not on Bali at all, but on the neighbouring island of Nusa Penida. The coral walls have been maintained surprisingly well, with hundreds of types of fish and marine life.
Most of the popular sites are along the northern and western shores of the island, on the coral walls between Nusa Penida and Nusa Ceningan. Start the day at Manta Point, for an unforgettable experience. The Manta Rays can span up to 5m wide, but don’t worry, they are gentle giants! Next is Gamat Bay. It is lesser known, so it rarely sees large crowds, whereas the next spot, Crystal Bay, is popular for families. Crystal Bay has one of the island’s most beautiful beaches, and snorkeling spots are just minutes off the coast by boat. The last stop is the feeding spot for the Giant Trevallies. They are not dangerous for humans, so relax and watch them zoom around trying to catch a bite.
Enjoy the rest of your day relaxing with lunch on the beach, then heading to Angels Billabong, Broken Beach, and always photographed Kelingking ‘T Rex.’
**Please note, that the waters around Nusa Penida are heavily affected by the tides and swells. During certain times of the year some of the points, especially Manta Bay, will be closed for snorkeling. This is for safety reasons, due to rough waves and strong undertows.
