Padang Bai and Blue Lagoon are two great dive sites, located on the east coast of Bali, just under an hours drive from Sanur. A variety of dive sties are suitable for all abilities of divers, including those trying diving for the first time – particularly in the calm waters of Blue Lagoon. Sites such as Gili Tepekong, and Gili Mimpang are for more experienced divers due to the strong currents.
Blue Lagoon offers crystal clear waters over a bright sandy bottom and delightful corals teeming with brightly coloured fish. It’s the perfect place for a novice diver to become hooked on the sport! The shallow clear waters are perfect for photography also. Marine life to be seen here includes Napoleon wrasse, several kinds of reef shark, stone fish, morays, blue ribbon eels, nudibranches, rays, squid and octopus, leaf scorpion fish, and stargazers and many more.
Amuk Bay arguable offers some of the best diving in Bali. It’s located close to Pandang Bali and Candidasa. There are three small islands Gili Mimpang, Gili Tepekong and Gili Biaha offering a exceptionally rich marine and coral life. Because of the strong currents around these islands, diving here is for more experienced divers, but if you have the skills, it’s a dive you’ll not forget and is well worth the effort.
